Mr. Bhupakkul Asavasopon Leads Harrow Bangkok Youth Volunteers in Music Therapy Initiative to Bring Joy and Social Healing
Mr. Bhupakkul Asavasopon spearheaded a youth volunteer initiative alongside fellow student musicians from Harrow International School Bangkok. Inspired by specialized music therapy training at Mahidol University, the team launched the "Music Therapy for Seniors and Communities" project during their school break, delivering interactive sessions across key institutions, including Siriraj Hospital, Bang Khae Home for the Elderly, and the Children's Foundation.
The initiative featured interactive music sessions where seniors actively engaged by singing along, clapping, and playing percussion instruments to stimulate sensory functions. Grounded in clinical research indicating that 70.8% of music therapy recipients show physical improvement and a 20% reduction in anxiety, the student team conducted an independent field study to measure the project's tangible impact.
Data collected across 8 target locations with 260 participants demonstrated remarkable results: 78% reported a significant reduction in stress levels, while 61 participants highlighted experiencing physical comfort, peace, and relaxation. Recognizing that musical eras and genres deeply influence emotional states, the team continuously adapted their playlists to match the nostalgic preferences of seniors in each community, maximizing emotional resonance and joy.
This volunteer experience not only delivered emotional healing and happiness to senior citizens but also served as an inspiring model for young leaders utilizing their artistic talents for public service. The team aims to expand this framework into a scalable volunteer model for the wider community.
